Ken Duncan

Ken Duncan

Ken Duncan, a Landscape photographer uses Garmin GPS which is 'a must' when it comes to including it in his equipment. "In the Australian Outback a GPS really helps in exploration.  Often there are little tracks all over the place and it’s easy to get lost, with the Garmin you can easily  retrace your steps to be able to get back out. If you did get lost in some locations you could easily run out of fuel or water and be in all sorts of trouble. Just recently I was up in remote Arnhem land  and the Topo facility on my Nuvi 500 was so cool it helped me weave my way through some  very difficult terrain. There was no  track so we had to make our own and the GPS was a real life saver".

Leon Griffin

Leon Griffin, World Duathlon and Ironman 70.3 winner admits "the Garmin products I use have helped me make the transition over from shorter length triathlon's (up to 2 hour events i.e Olympic distance) to longer ones like half and full Ironman events. The 310XT and Edge 500 have assisted me in understanding how to better pace myself and conserve energy to run out the longer trips and have enough left in the tank to be in contention right till the finish".

Tim Berkel

Tim Berkel

Tim Berkel, Ironman Western Australia winner says, "the Forerunner is an incredible training tool. Prior to having the Garmin, I used the typical sports watch, with timing features like lap timing, stopwatch, etc. but since none of these watches include GPS information, as you go, the information, and data that I collected was only accessible after my workout. Furthermore, it required me to have several standard routes that I would drive in my car, and memorised the various mile marker. Having a watch with GPS data, is indispensable once you have used it once. I can see my running pace in live time, and not only is this valuable information for training, but it has even greater value in racing".

Courtney Atkinson

Courtney Atkinson

"The Garmin GPS running products have been the best technological advancement for running training" says Courtney Atkinson, Australian Olympian, 4 x Australian Triathlon Champion, 2 x Noosa Triathlon winner. "The ability to know, analyse and compare my paces, distances, heart rates all together regardless of terrain or location has directly improved my run training effectiveness and in turn my running performances have followed. My Forerunner 310XT and 405CX lock in their GPS position fast. My favourite feature of the 310XT is the amount of data I can look at while running at one time. The 405CX is a running computer on your wrist, with the look and comfort of a normal watch that you can wear all day".

"The Garmin devices have enabled me to get better use out of my power meter by integrating it with my other performance data (like heart-rate, speed and cadence) by integrating my training data in one place", says the 2008 Paralympic Champion 500m time trial, 2009 UCI Paracycling road race world champion, 2009 UCI Paracycling road time trial world champion. "My coach who lives in a different city to me has the opportunity to get a full picture of my training sessions through viewing GPS data as well as my performance data. The devices are incredibly easy to use. Installing third party Ant + components like my power meter was a breeze. I really like the flexibility to set the fields that can be shown on the display. This means that I can focus on the important performance metrics when I'm training. There's no need to change screens as I can choose what data I see. In fact, I would've purchased the Garmin Edge for this reason alone.

Michael Hepburn

Michael Hepburn, Gold medal winner in the Team Pursuit at the 2010 World Track Championships has been using the Edge 705 now for over a year. “I have become dependent on this incredible training tool. The amount of information at my disposal at any one time is so comprehensive that there is absolutely no need for me to use any other device. The Edge 705 accurately displays my power output as well as other crucial data that the AIS and Team Jayco-Skins use for measuring performance and my body's response to training. I spend a lot of time travelling to and from Europe with the AIS and Team Jayco-Skins so the City Navigator maps for Europe ensure no matter where I am riding my bike, I always know where I am going and more importantly how to get back”.

"When I talk about training smarter, it means to know exactly what I'm doing in real time, 100% of the time", says the bronze medal winner at the Noosa Triathlon in 2009. "Whilst the real time GPS feature rules in terms of my love for Garmin, a close second would be the ability Garmin gives me to study my sessions post-workout with Garmin Connect, to see trends, performance and improvement as they are happening, and over time".
